if tomato is a fruit, is ketchup a smoothie

Recommended Posts

Yes, a tomato is classified as a fruit. But a smoothie consists of milk or other dairy products ( milk, yogurt, ice-cream or cottage cheese ). In which ketchup does not consist of. So no ketchup is not a smoothie.

No. It is just ketchup. If milk or other products were added, then yes it would be a smoothie. That is according to the dictionary definition of Smoothie:

a thick, smooth drink of fresh fruit pureed with milk, yogurt, or ice cream

If it was a smoothie, ketchup wouldn’t be that smooth you know. When you blend tomatoes, they clump up. It doesn’t immediately become ketchup. A lot goes into preserving and making it fresh.
